Albert Maignan | Orientalist painter

Albert Pierre René Maignan (1845-1908) was a French history painter and illustrator.
In 1864, he left his hometown to study law in Paris, earning his diploma in 1866.
During his studies he also painted and took art lessons from Jules Achille Noël.
He had his début at the Salon in 1867, and continued to exhibit there throughout his life.

Matiko Mamaladze, 1964 | Romantic palette knife painter

Matiko Mamaladze is an award-winning artist, born in Tbilisi, Georgia.
She grew up in an artistic family, surrounded by her mother’s and grandfather’s paintings.
They were a source of inspiration to Matiko and encouraged her to study art.
The creative atmosphere she was immersed in influenced her to such an extent, that from early times drawing and painting became necessities she couldn’t imagine herself without.

Pompeo Mariani | Pittore impressionista

Mariani Pompeo (Milano 1840-1914) - Nacque il 9 sett. 1857 a Monza da Martino, direttore insieme con Gaetano Pellegrino della scuola commerciale Mariani-Pellegrino, e da Giulia Bianchi, proveniente da una famiglia di pittori (era figlia di Giosuè e sorella di Mosè).
Terminato il ginnasio, il M. fu avviato dal padre alla carriera bancaria presso la banca Cavagliani e Oneto di Milano.
Nel capoluogo lombardo fu introdotto da A. Noseda nei circoli culturali e artistici intorno ai quali gravitavano, tra gli altri, A. Boito, G. Braga, L. Gualdo e i pittori legati alla cultura tardoscapigliata L. Conconi e V. Bignami (quest’ultimo fondatore della Famiglia artistica).

Xing Jianjian, 1959 | Ballet dancers

Chinese painter Xing Jianjian / 邢健健 is from Nantong, in southeastern Jiangsu province.
In 1986, he graduated from Nanjing University of the Arts majoring in oil painting with a bachelor's degree and stayed on as a teacher there.

He is currently a professor and master tutor at the School of Fine Arts of Nanjing University of the Arts.
Jianjian is member of China Artists Association. Director of Jiangsu Oil Painting Society.

Vincent van Gogh | Montmartre series

The Montmartre paintings are a group of works that Vincent van Gogh created in 1886 and 1887 of the Paris district of Montmartre while living there, at 54 Rue Lepic, with his brother Theo.
Rather than capture urban settings in Paris, van Gogh preferred pastoral scenes, such as Montmartre and Asnières in the northwest suburbs.
Of the two years in Paris, the work from 1886 often has the dark, somber tones of his early works from the Netherlands and Brussels.

Richard Telford was born in Dorchester and spent his childhood in this most picturesque part of England.
He developed a keen interest in painting professionally from an early age when his talent was recognized by a local gallery.
For a while, after graduating from art college, he took up a career as a graphic designer, which in time he abandoned in order to further his ambition of painting full time.
