Jose Miguel Roman Frances, 1950

Jose Miguel Roman Frances è nato ad Alcoy, Alicante, in Spagna. All'età di quattordici anni inizia a dipingere nella bottega di Gaspar Frances Rico. Rico è diventato più un amico che un insegnante e il suo lavoro ha influenzato la formazione artistica di Frances.

Claude Monet was commissioned to create this garden scene on the grounds of the textile merchant Ernest Hoschedé’s home in the Parisian suburb of Montgeron.

The artist disrupted the classically composed picture space by placing the blossoming bushes unusually close in the foreground.

This arrangement could be due to the purpose of the composition as a wall decoration that was to simulate a view into the landscape.

The style in which it was painted and the depiction of shifting light and color was influenced by Impressionism.

This painting shows a view of the modern woman and is similar in style to Degas.

During his life, he enjoyed significant popularity in France and the United States, was given numerous official honors, and received top prices for his work.

As the quintessential salon painter of his generation, he was reviled by the Impressionist avant-garde.

By the early twentieth century, Bouguereau and his art fell out of favor with the public, due in part to changing tastes.

In the 1980s, a revival of interest in figure painting led to a rediscovery of Bouguereau and his work.
