Johan Krouthén | Skagen painter

Johan Krouthén (1858-1932) was a Swedish artist.

He broke away from the traditions of the Swedish Academy, turning to Realism and Idealism.

Immediately after his studies, he spent a few months in Paris and in Denmark where he associated with the Skagen Painters.

Alexander Tolstoy (1895-1969)

Alexander Tolstoy, born in Saint Petersburg, was a Russian-Swedish count and painter, graphic artist, illustrator, master of still life and a female portrait, active in Dalarna, Sweden.

Tolstoy was educated at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague and then studied in several countries.

His art consists of figure studies and women in national costumes done in oil.

Jakob Kulle | Genre painter

Emma Josepha Sparre née Munktell was born at Grycksbo in Dalarna County, Sweden.

She was the daughter of Henrik Munktell (1804-1861) and Christina Augusta Eggertz (1818-1889).

She was the sister of composer Helena Munktell (1852-1919).

She was married to fellow artist Baron Carl Axel Ambjörn Sparre (1839-1910) from 1870 to 1891.

Mats Åkerman, 1956 | Modern painter

Mats Åkerman, born in Stockholm, is a Swedish painter, draftsman and graphic artist.

He has created his own fantasy world which he calls "The Swagi Union".

The main character in this world is called Rocco Rivarossi and the story takes place mostly in the 1950s.

The pictures often depict restaurants, boats, trains and urban environments.

Axel Jungstedt | Genre painter

Axel Adolf Harald Jungstedt (17 March 1859 - 14 March 1933) was a Swedish painter and professor at the Royal Swedish Academy of Arts.

He is represented with paintings at the Gothenburg Art Museum, the National Gallery of Denmark, and the National Gallery of Norway, and contributed with decorations of the Stockholm Opera House.

Axel Adolf Harald Jungstedt was born on 17 March 1859 in Norrköping in Östergötland, Sweden, the son of Johan Nils Jungstedt and Matilda Sundius.

He was the brother of opera singer Matilda Jungstedt.

Gottfrid Kallstenius (1861-1943)

Gottfrid Samuel Nikolaus Kallstenius (Nacka, 13 luglio 1861 - Nacka, 26 maggio 1943) è stato un pittore Svedese.

Gottfrid Kallstenius è nato a Västervik, in Svezia. Suo fratello Evald Gustaf Götrik Kallstenius (nato nel 1868) era un zoologo e membro della sfortunata spedizione Björling–Kallstenius.

Dopo gli studi preparatori con Edvard Perséus, fu ammesso alla Royal Swedish Academy of Fine Arts nel 1884 e si laureò nel 1888, dopo aver ricevuto due medaglie per il suo lavoro.

Nel 1891 sposò la pittrice Gerda Roosval. Poco dopo gli fu assegnata una borsa di studio di viaggio e trascorsero un'estate a Parigi, completando i loro studi.

Gustaf-Fjaestad | Paesaggi invernali

Gustaf Fjæstad (Stoccolma, 1868 - Arvika, 1948) è stato un pittore e designer Svedese, celebre per i suoi dipinti che ritraggono paesaggi invernali.

Gustaf Fjæstad nacque a Stoccolma nel 1868 da Peder Christensen, calzolaio e Kristina Andersson.

Studiò dapprima presso la Reale Accademia delle Belle Arti nel 1891-92 e l'anno successivo alla Konstnärsförbundets skola.

Nel 1893 fu assistente di Bruno Liljefors durante i suoi lavori decorativi per il museo biologico (Stoccolma) e poi di Carl Larsson quando dipinse gli affreschi del Museo nazionale di Stoccolma.

Elisabeth Warling | Genre painter

Swedish painter Elisabeth Warling (1858-1915) was the daughter of the confectioner Viktor Warling and Carin Sjögren.

Warling studied at the Technical School in Stockholm (1875-1877) and the Academy of Fine Arts 1877-1883 and abroad at, among others, the Académie Colarossi in Paris (1875–1887) after she was awarded a scholarship from the Academy of Fine Arts.

Her art consists mainly of genre and portrait paintings made in oil, gouache, watercolor or pencil drawings, but she also performed to a lesser extent figure studies and landscape depictions.

She participated in the Art Academy's Stockholm Exhibition in 1887, the Nordic exhibition in Copenhagen in 1888 and several of the Swedish Artists' Association's exhibitions in Stockholm from 1890, the Swedish General Art Association's December exhibition in 1911, the Swedish Artists Association's exhibitions in Stockholm in 1911 and in Lund in 1912 and The Baltic exhibition 1914.

Charlotte Wahlström | Landscape painter

Charlotte Constance Wahlström (1849-1924) was a Swedish painter.

Wahlström was born in the parish of Svärta in Södermanland, Sweden. She was the daughter of Anders Wahlström and Carolina Setterberg. She attended the Royal Swedish Academy of Fine Arts in Stockholm.

She traveled on a scholarship to Paris, Brittany in 1885 and later to Germany, the Netherlands and Belgium.

In 1889, she spent a period in the artist colony in Barbizon.

Wahlström exhibited her work at the Palace of Fine Arts at the 1893 World's Columbian Exposition in Chicago, Illinois.

Anna Gardell-Ericson

Anna Maria Gardell-Ericson (Visby, 10 ottobre 1853 – Stoccolma, 2 giugno 1939) è stata una pittrice ed acquarellista Svedese. Si è specializzata in scene costiere e paesaggi con laghi o fiumi.

Suo padre, Johan, è generalmente descritto come un pittore di paesaggi, anche se potrebbe essere stato principalmente un funzionario amministrativo locale.

All'età di sedici anni, iniziò a dipingere e mostrò un talento sufficiente per essere inviata in Svizzera per iniziare i suoi studi.

In seguito, studiò con Per Daniel Holm alla Royal Swedish Academy of Fine Arts di Stoccolma; debuttando in una delle mostre dell'Accademia nel 1875.

L'anno successivo, vinse una medaglia di bronzo alla Centennial Exposition di Filadelfia.

Carl Larsson (1853-1919)

Carl Larsson (1853-1919) è stato un pittore ed illustratore Svedese.

Nato in una famiglia indigente, studiò dapprima in una scuola per bambini poveri, poi nel 1866, all'età di tredici anni, fu ammesso all'Accademia Reale Svedese delle Arti di Stoccolma.

Durante i primi anni in questa prestigiosa istituzione Larsson, timido e socialmente inferiore rispetto a molti suoi compagni, trovò difficoltà ad ambientarsi; tuttavia, col passare degli anni riuscì a mettersi in luce grazie al suo talento, diventando una figura centrale dell'accademia.

Dopo aver lavorato alcuni anni come illustratore per libri e giornali, nel 1880 si trasferì a Parigi, dove rimase fino al 1885 passando anni frustranti come artista senza successo.

Fu proprio a Parigi che nel 1882 incontrò l'artista Karin Bergöö, che presto diventò sua moglie.

Questo fu un punto di svolta nella vita di Larsson, che cominciò a dipingere le sue opere più importanti, abbandonando la pittura ad olio, fino ad allora la tecnica da lui maggiormente utilizzata, per realizzare degli acquerelli.

Gustaf Theodor Wallen (1860-1948)

Gustaf Theodor Wallén (14 dicembre 1860, Stoccolma - 15 gennaio 1948, Leksand) è stato un pittore, grafico, disegnatore e scultore Svedese.

Ha iniziato a studiare all'Artigianato di Stoccolma ed alla Scuola professionale nel 1878, ma nel 1879 si è iscritto alla Scuola dell'Accademia delle Arti, dove ha studiato per Georg von Rosen.

Durante l'accademia divenne stretto amico di Bruno Liljefors, Gottfrid Kallstenius ed Anshelm Schultzberg, la sua interazione con Schultzberg prese vita.

Gli fu conferita la medaglia reale nel 1887 per la pittura ad olio "Havsstrand a Kivik".

Carl Wilhelmson (Swedish, 1866-1928)

Carl Wilhelm Wilhelmson🎨 was born in the little fishing village of Fiskebäcksil on the west coast of Sweden.

He began working in a print works in Gothenburg as a lithography apprentice.

Wilhelmson trained first as a commercial lithographer in Göteborg.

In 1886 he enrolled as a student of decorative painting at Valand College of Art where his teacher was Carl Larsson🎨.

Wilhelm von Gegerfelt | Skagen painter

Wilhelm von Gegerfelt, also Vilhelm von Gegerfelt (1844-1920) was a Swedish painter.

Born in Gothenburg, Gegerfelt was the son the architect Victor von Gegerfelt (1817-1915).

From 1861-1863, he studied at the Royal Danish Academy, at the Royal Swedish Academy from 1864-1867, and thereafter in Düsseldorf until 1872.

Anders Zorn (1860-1920)

Anders Zorn, in full Anders Leonard Zorn, Swedish painter and etcher, internationally famed as one of the best genre and portrait painters in Europe at the end of the 19th century.

Zorn studied at the Stockholm academy and then travelled extensively throughout Europe. After working in England, France, and the United States, he returned to Mora in 1896.

With his virtuoso technique, he records here how it is reflected in the misted-up windows of an omnibus and falls on the faces and bodies of the passengers.

He obtained international success as a painter, sculptor and etcher.

Zorn was a prolific artist.

He became an international success as one of the most acclaimed portrait painters of his era.

Georg Pauli | Pittore simbolista

Georg Vilhelm Pauli (Jönköping, 2 luglio 1855 – Stoccolma, 28 novembre 1935) è stato un pittore Svedese, noto per i suoi affreschi ed i suoi soggetti maschili.

Egli scrisse inoltre dei libri relativi all'arte.

Il padre August Ferdinand Pauli (1815-1904) era un farmacista e un industriale.

La sua famiglia discendeva dal generale luogotenente Wilhelm Pauli, che a sua volta discendeva da una famiglia italiana che era partita dalla penisola sotto il patrocinio dell'imperatore Rodolfo II, all'inizio della guerra dei trent'anni, e poi era giunta in Svezia, dove venne accettata nella nobiltà nel 1625.
