He was born in Kelecsény Austria-Hungary.

He studied under Gyula Benczúr and Ludwig von Löfftz at the Academy of Munich.

He lived in Budapest since 1894.

His most famous pictures genre works with children there are at Hungarian National Gallery.

He died and buried in Bodajk, Hungary, where a street bears his name.

Zsigmond Vajda | Pittore di genere

Jozsef Borsos (1821-1883)

Jozsef Borsos was a Hungarian🎨 portrait painter and photographer.

He was also renowned for his numerous "genre" paintings and is most often recognized as an artist of the Biedermeier.

Jozsef Borsos studied in Budapest and subsequently at Vienna’s Academy of Fine Arts from 1840 until 1842.

Zoltán Hornyik, 1960 | Impressionist painter

Hungarian painter Zoltán Hornyik was born in Kemecse.

His first maters were Borbála Fekete, János Kapcsa and Lajos Bíró. He graduated at the Teacher Training College of Nyíregyháza as a teacher of arts and geography in 1985.

After a short career as a teacher he transferred into arts. Since then he has been working as a freelance painter.

Mihály Munkácsy (1844-1900)

Mihály Munkácsy (Mukačevo, 20 febbraio 1844 – Endenich, 1º maggio 1900) è stato un pittore Ungherese.

Mihály Lieb, suo vero nome, fu un pittore accademico, attivo a Parigi e a Budapest negli anni fra il 1870 e il 1890. Studiò nel 1863 a Budapest e nel 1864 a Vienna.

Espose al Salon di Parigi nel 1870 ottenendo un successo inaspettato. In una trentina d'anni riuscì a produrre circa seicento quadri nei generi più disparati: ritratti, nature morte, paesaggi, scene di genere, interni borghesi, composizioni storiche e religiose.

Alcuni di essi sono di dimensioni assai grandi (100 m² per l'Apoteosi del Rinascimento, oggi al Museo di Belle arti di Vienna, più di 60 m² e un centinaio di personaggi per La conquista del Paese, oggi nella sede del Parlamento Ungherese).

Purtroppo la maggior parte delle sue opere si è deteriorata per l'impiego di un fondo di colore al bitume, la cui ossidazione ha cominciato ad annerirle gravemente subito dopo la loro realizzazione.

Pál Fried (1893-1976)

Pál Fried è stato un artista Ungherese naturalizzato statunitense famoso come pittore specialmente di ritratti eseguiti a giovani donne, alcune anche appartenenti a quello che cominciava ad essere chiamato jet-set e di scene di genere western, orientalista, ispanico.

Pál Fried ha lavorato con i pastelli ma soprattutto con olio su tela, e ha sperimentato con gli effetti di luce e con la resa del movimento, fissando l'attimo della scena raffigurata.

I suoi dipinti rappresentano principalmente figure femminili giovani e graziose ritratte sullo sfondo soprattutto di vie parigine o di altri luoghi, cowboy e paesaggi del west americano, vedute marine ed anche alcuni soggetti africani ed orientalisti.

János Vaszary | The Golden Age, 1898

János Miklós Vaszary (30 November 1867, Kaposvár - 19 April 1939, Budapest) was a Hungarian painter⏭ and graphic artist.

He was born into a prominent Catholic family and his uncle was Kolos Ferenc Vaszary, the Archbishop of Esztergom. His art studies began at the Hungarian University of Fine Arts under János Greguss (hu). In 1887, he went to Munich, where he studied with Gabriel von Hackl and Ludwig von Löfftz. After seeing an exhibition of paintings by Jules Bastien-Lepage, he moved to Paris in 1899 and enrolled at the Académie Julian.

Laszlo Gulyas, 1960

Born in Budapest, Hungary, Laszlo Gulyas graduated at the Academy of Fine and Applied Arts. Laszlo continued his studies as a student of the Academy of Fine Arts between 1983-1987.

He has been member of the National Society of Hungarian Artists since 1987. The artist developed his individual world of images and acquired the painting techniques of the early masters of painting under the influence of the universal art of Rembrandt.

This is what makes him distinct form his contemporaries. He seems to be charmed by the revival of heritage rather than by demolishing the art of painting or by recording its death struggle. In his works he applies the contrastive effects of the light and the shade with brilliant skills. Besides the clear colours his sketching appears to be remarkable.

The principal values of his gift are exhibited in his portrays of his family, which are full of vitality and harmony.

Istvan Sàndorfi (1948-2007)

István Sándorfi, noto anche come Étienne Sandorfi (Budapest, 12 giugno 1948 - Parigi, 26 dicembre 2007), è stato un pittore Ungherese naturalizzato Francese, appartenente alla corrente iperrealista

Nei suoi primi anni Sandorfi si dedicò soprattutto inizialmente agli autoritratti.

Nel 1973, un'esposizione al Musée d'art moderne de la Ville de Paris contribuì a fare di Sandorfi un talento in ascesa dell'iperrealismo, anche se l'artista rifiutò sempre di riconoscersi in quel movimento e si definì «semplicemente realista».

Il suo stile pittorico, che inglobava sia la tecnica iperrealista della meticolosità "fotografica" sia elementi tipici del surrealismo, fu accolto favorevolmente dalla critica.
