Jakub Schikaneder | The Kampa Lovers, 1894

"The Kampa Lovers" is an 1894 painting by the Czech painter and professor Jakub Schikaneder (1855-1924).

Schikaneder is known for his soft paintings of the outdoors, often lonely in mood.

His paintings often feature poor and outcast figures and "combined neo-romantic and naturalist impulses".

Other motifs favoured by Schikaneder were autumn and winter, corners and alleyways in the city of Prague and the banks of the Vltava – often in the early evening light, or cloaked in mist.

Franz Xaver Andreas Petter (23 October 1791 - 11 May 1866) was an Austrian artist.

Petter was born in Lichtental; his father was a painter of porcelain, and it was intended that he should follow in the same profession, but Petter developed an interest in oil painting.

He studied under Johann Baptist Drechsler at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna.

He was the son of a railway official and painter and brother of the painter Karl Maria Schuster.

After a year of private lessons, Josef Schuster studied as a guest from 1895 to 1897, then as a regular student until 1904 at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna with Christian Griepenkerl and Kazimierz Pochwalski.

Joseph (Josef) Schuster moved to Vienna with his family when he was a child, where he attended the first two classes of high school.

Johann Baptist Reiter | Genre painter

Johann Baptist Reiter (28 May 1813, Linz - 10 January 1890, Vienna) was an Austrian portrait and genre painter of the Biedermeier period.

His father was a master carpenter. He spent three years as an apprentice at his father's company, painting furniture, signs and crosses.

Encouraged by the lithographer and art dealer, Josef Hafner, he enrolled at the Academy of Fine Arts, Vienna.

His teachers there included Leopold Kupelwieser and Thomas Ender.

Eugene de Blaas | Pittore di genere

Carl (Manders, Tirolo, 1815-Vienna 1894), che era stato chiamato in Italia nel 1832 dallo zio Francesco Purtscher di Eschenburg per frequentare l'accademia di Venezia, fu dal 1837 a Roma dove venne in contatto con il circolo dei Nazareni e ritornò a Vienna nel 1851; dall'estate 1856 fu a Venezia come professore presso l'accademia; ritornò definitivamente a Vienna nel 1866.

Un suo ritratto del figlio Eugenio a 5 anni è stato esposto a Vienna nel Belvedere superiore nel 1985.

Il de Blaas, dapprima allievo dei padre all'accademia di Venezia, si formò successivamente a Roma (nel 1862 vinse il pensionato; Marini, 1905, p. 249).

Maximilian Lenz (Vienna, 1860-1948) è stato un pittore, grafico e scultore Austriaco. Fu membro fondatore della Secessione di Vienna; durante il periodo più importante della sua carriera fu simbolista, ma in seguito il suo lavoro divenne sempre più naturalistico.

Franz Rumpler | Pittore di genere

Franz Rumpler (4 dicembre 1848, Tachau - 7 marzo 1922, Klosterneuburg) è stato un pittore di genere e paesaggista Austriaco.

Era il figlio di Johann Baptist Rumpler (1807-1876), intagliatore del legno, e fratello di Johann Rumpler, il Giovane (1845-1918), scultore del legno. Le sue prime lezioni vennero da suo padre.

Dopo aver mostrato un talento insolito, fu inviato a Vienna per ulteriori studi, all'età di quindici anni, e ricevette numerosi premi per il suo lavoro.

Attirò l'attenzione del cardinale Friedrich Prince zu Schwarzenberg e, con il suo sostegno finanziario, poté studiare all'Accademia di Belle Arti con Eduard von Engerth.

Antonietta Brandeis (1848-1926) was a Czech-born Italian landscape, genre and portrait painter, as well as a painter of religious subjects for altarpieces.

Early Life and Initial Training

She was born on January 13, 1848, in Miskovice (near Kutná Hora) in Eastern Europe. The first bibliographical indication of Antonietta Brandeis dates from her teens, when she is mentioned as a pupil of the Czech artist Karel Javurek of Prague. After the death of Brandeis' father, her mother, Giuseppina Dravhozvall, married the Venetian Giovanni Nobile Scaramella; shortly afterward the family apparently moved to Venice.

In the 1867 registry of the Venetian Academy of Fine Arts, Brandeis is listed as being enrolled as an art student. At this time, Brandeis would have been nineteen, and one of the first females to receive academic instruction in the fine arts in Italy. In fact, the Ministry granted women the legal right to instruction in the fine arts only in 1875, by which time Brandeis had finished her education at the Academy.

Bob Pejman (Austrian painter, 1963)
