Herman Tulp, 1955 | Magic realism painter

Herman Tulp is an incredible Dutch painter who is best known for his intimate, nostalgic still lifes.

However, he has many subject to his repertoire such as landscapes, houses, cows, trains and models all characterized by his very own style of painting.

Clear and realistic, sober but colored and often provided with magic-realistic elements.

However, in recent years his paintings of women increasingly step to the forefront.

He paints in a realistic manner, focusing on two genres: intimate still life and magic-realistic landscapes.

His still life paintings radiate nostalgia, often including objects from the time of his Grandmother painted against time-weathered wood.

In his magic-realistic paintings, trains or houses are painted as solitary monuments in whimsical landscapes.

An endless source of inspiration for Herman Tulp, wherein the previously in abundance present symbolism and surrealist tone now are subordinate to the light, atmosphere and composition.

His female figures are beautiful, aesthetically pleasing and a bit romantic.

Vulnerable, yet strong.

They are set in landscapes or spaces where time has left its mark and there is always an element present that refers to light in the form of a window or door.

Herman Tulp studied at the academy Minerva in Groningen, The Netherlands.

A peerless painter which uses his brush in an extremely classical manner, but depicts his subjects in such a modern and distinctive way that he belongs to the absolute top part of contemporary realists.

Tulp has exhibited at the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam, the KunstRai in Amsterdam, HAF in Utrecht and The Hague.

Herman Tulp è un pittore ineguagliabile, che usa il pennello in maniera estremamente classica, ma raffigura i suoi soggetti in modo così moderno e distintivo da appartenere all'assoluto vertice dei realisti contemporanei.

Si è formato presso l'Accademia Minerva di Groningen (1975-1980).

Tra i suoi insegnanti c'erano Diederik Kraaijpoel, Wout Muller e Matthijs Röling.

Negli anni '80 e '90 oltre al suo lavoro ha collaborato come pittore freelance illustrando libri, riviste e pubblicità.

Tulp dipinge in modo realistico, concentrandosi su due generi: la natura morta intima ed i paesaggi magico-realistici.

I suoi dipinti di nature morte irradiano nostalgia, spesso includono oggetti dell'epoca di sua nonna dipinti su legno stagionato dal tempo.

Nei suoi dipinti magico-realistici, treni o case sono dipinti come monumenti solitari in paesaggi stravaganti.

Tulp ha esposto allo Stedelijk Museum di Amsterdam, al KunstRai di Amsterdam, all'HAF di Utrecht ed all'Aia.

Un autoritratto di Herman con le cuffie può essere visto nel Museo Drents.

Inoltre il suo lavoro è incluso nella collezione dal Museo Møhlmann e da molte collezioni private.

Nel 2009 è stato pubblicato il libro 'Hermansblauw, trentotto anni di pittura' con testi di Henk Meutgeert, Ronald Ohlsen, Rein Pol ed il direttore del Museo Drents Harry Tupan.
