Michel Devanakis is a contemporary figurative painter. He lives and works in Athens, Greece.

Born and raised in Douala (Cameroon) from Greek parents, I studied Graphic Design and advertising in France.

In the years following my studies, I lived and worked in many countries (France, Bermuda, Mexico, Canada) before settling in Greece in 1997, where I founded my own agency.

I have been awarded for my design works and have been the art director for numerous magazines (+Design, Insider Athens, Bonjour, etc.)".

"While I have been creating art in various forms throughout my life it was not until 2013, after recovering from a serious heart surgery, that I gradually dedicated myself to painting on a full-time basis.

I admire and love the works of many artists, past and present, with very different styles and cultures.

I wouldn’t be able to judge myself as having a specific influence other than being mostly attracted to realism.

This “labeling” makes me feel uncomfortable as by doing so, I believe people would expect me to create again and again in a certain way.

I try to protect my freedom and the spontaneity to create whatever I want, as I want it, allowing myself to be entertained and for you to be surprised".

Nato e cresciuto a Douala (Camerun) da genitori greci, ho studiato grafica e pubblicità in Francia.

Negli anni successivi ai miei studi ho vissuto e lavorato in molti paesi (Francia, Bermuda, Messico, Canada) prima di stabilirmi in Grecia nel 1997, dove ho fondato la mia agenzia.

Sono stato premiato per i miei lavori di design e sono stato l'art director di numerose riviste (+Design, Insider Athens, Bonjour, ecc.)".

"- Mentre ho creato arte in varie forme nel corso della mia vita, è stato solo nel 2013, dopo essermi ripreso da un grave intervento chirurgico al cuore, che mi sono gradualmente dedicato alla pittura a tempo pieno.

Ammiro ed amo le opere di molti artisti, passati e presenti, con stili e culture molto diverse.

Non sarei in grado di giudicare me stesso come avente un'influenza specifica diversa dall'essere principalmente attratto dal realismo.

Questa "etichettatura" mi fa sentire a disagio perché così facendo, credo che le persone si aspetterebbero che crei ancora e ancora in un certo modo.

Cerco di proteggere la mia libertà e la spontaneità per creare quello che voglio, come voglio, lasciandomi divertire e farti sorprendere”.
