Josef Schuster (1873-1945) | Still Life painter

Josef Schuster (July 26, 1873 in Vienna-Heiligenstadt - February 8, 1945 in Vienna) was an Austrian painter.

He was the son of a railway official and painter and brother of the painter Karl Maria Schuster.

After a year of private lessons, Josef Schuster studied as a guest from 1895 to 1897, then as a regular student until 1904 at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna with Christian Griepenkerl and Kazimierz Pochwalski.

During his studies, Schuster received the Special School Prize in 1901 and the Rosenbaum Prize in 1902.

As a freelance artist, Schuster mainly painted still lifes in the style of the old Viennese masters.

During the First World War he was a soldier from 1915 to 1918.

In 1933 Schuster became a member of the Vienna Artists' Cooperative (Künstlerhaus) and joined the “Gsur Group”.

Era figlio di un funzionario delle ferrovie e pittore e fratello del pittore Karl Maria Schuster.

Dopo un anno di lezioni private, Josef Schuster studiò come ospite dal 1895 al 1897, poi come studente regolare fino al 1904 all'Accademia di Belle Arti di Vienna con Christian Griepenkerl e Kazimierz Pochwalski.

Durante i suoi studi, Schuster ricevette il Premio speciale per la scuola nel 1901 ed il Premio Rosenbaum nel 1902.

Artista freelance, Schuster dipinse principalmente nature morte nello stile dei vecchi maestri viennesi.

Durante la prima guerra mondiale fu soldato dal 1915 al 1918.

Nel 1933 Schuster divenne membro della Cooperativa degli artisti di Vienna (Künstlerhau) e si unì al conservatore "Gsur Group".
