Jean Léon Henri Gouweloos was a Belgian genre and portrait painter as well as poster artist and lithographer.
Jean Gouweloos studied, like his brother Charles (1867-1946) from 1887-1890 and from 1893-1894 at the Académie royale des Beaux-Arts de Bruxelles.
He was also a student of the painter and decorator Charle-Albert.
Before studying, he made a living in Paris by drawing posters, then he worked in the family's printing house, which specialized in artistic printing.


From 1887 he showed his works at exhibitions in Brussels, Namur, Ostend and abroad: Paris (1900 and 1903), Düsseldorf (1904), Berlin (1908), Munich (1913).
In 1891 he became a member of the artist group "Voorwaarts", where he befriended Victor Gilsoul (1867-1939).
In 1895 he joined the group "Sillon".
Jean Gouweloos mainly painted portraits of women and nudes. Almost all women were portrayed with a cigarette.
He also created two ceiling paintings in the Kursaal in Ostend and twelve paintings for the Masonic Lodge in Brussels (1900).
He spent the years of the First World War between 1914-1918 with his family in the Netherlands, first in Domburg, later in Scheveningen.

Jean Gouweloos studiò, come suo fratello Charles (1867-1946) dal 1887-1890 e dal 1893-1894 all'Académie royale des Beaux-Arts de Bruxelles.
Era anche uno studente del pittore e decoratore Charle-Albert.
Prima di studiare si guadagnava da vivere a Parigi disegnando manifesti, poi lavorava nella tipografia di famiglia, specializzata nella stampa artistica.
Dal 1887 espone in mostre a Bruxelles, Namur, Ostenda ed all'estero: Parigi (1900 e 1903), Düsseldorf (1904), Berlino (1908), Monaco (1913).


Nel 1891 divenne membro del gruppo di artisti "Voorwaarts", dove fece amicizia con Victor Gilsoul (1867-1939).
Nel 1895 entra a far parte del gruppo "Sillon".
Jean Gouweloos dipinge principalmente ritratti di donne e figure. Quasi tutte le donne sono state ritratte con una sigaretta. Ha anche creato due dipinti sul soffitto nel Kursaal di Ostenda e dodici dipinti per la Loggia massonica a Bruxelles (1900).
Trascorse gli anni della prima guerra mondiale tra il 1914-1918 con la sua famiglia nei Paesi Bassi, prima a Domburg, poi a Scheveningen.
