Vittorio Matteo Corcos | La signora con ombrellino, 1884


Born into a Jewish family of the Italian port city of Livorno in 1859 and died in 1933, in Florence, Vittorio Matteo Corcos is known for his portraits of parisian society and his genre scenes.
Corcos studied in Florence and then in Naples, where he was one of Domenico Morelli's best students.


From 1880-1886 he lived in Paris, and painted many sporting subjects.
Many of his genre works depict winsome and finely dressed young men and women, in moments of repose and recreation.
The women depicted in Corcos' work became queens of the Belle Époque. Some of his works earned him the nickname of 'painter of pretty women'.
Between 1881-1886, he frequently exhibited at the Salon.




Nato in una famiglia ebrea di Livorno nel 1859 e morto nel 1933, a Firenze, Vittorio Matteo Corcos è noto per i suoi ritratti della società parigina e le sue scene di genere.
Corcos studiò a Firenze e poi a Napoli, dove fu uno dei migliori studenti di Domenico Morelli.
Dal 1880-1886 visse a Parigi.
Molte delle sue opere di genere raffigurano giovani e donne attraenti e finemente vestiti, in momenti di riposo e svago.
Le donne raffigurate da Corcos divennero regine della Belle Époque ed alcune gli valsero il soprannome di "pittore di belle donne".
Tra il 1881-1886 espose frequentemente al Salon.
