Michele Lehmann, 1940 | Abstract painter

Michele Lehmann was born in Switzerland but moved to Mijas in southern Spain over 30 years ago.

After arriving there, Michele opened an art gallery as an outlet for local artists.

Although not an artist herself she began sketching to pass the time.

It began with a sketch of an old woman in black who passed the gallery every day.

She moved too fast for Michele to draw so the image captured her from behind.

Michele’s own artistic style evolved from there.

Now she paints predominantly in oils.  She is entirely self-taught and credits Mijas and its artists for the stimulus and resources from which she learned.

She likes her pictures to leave room for the imagination.

Michele’s figures are wistful; they turn away from you, they point to something outside of your range of vision, or they hurry towards an unknown destination.

There is something they’re not telling you and unavoidably you start to make up your own story.

Since 1981, Michele has exhibited regularly in Spain, Holland and Switzerland, with permanent exhibitions in Barcelona, Granada, Mijas and the UK.

• 1981 - First prize for drawing, Antonio del Rincon, Guadalajara, Spain;
• 1985 - First prize for painting, Art Biennial of F.C. Barcelona;
• 2000 - Prize for drawing, Real Academy Santa Isabel of Hungary, Sevilla;
• 2009 - Art and gastronomy, Casa Consuelo, Otur Valdes, Spain;
• 2011 - Award “Women in Mijas”.

Michele è nata in Svizzera ma si è trasferita a Mijas, nel sud della Spagna oltre 30 anni fa. Dopo essere arrivata lì, Michele ha aperto una galleria d'arte come outlet per artisti locali.

Anche se non era un'artista, ha iniziato a disegnare per passare il tempo.

È iniziato con uno schizzo di una vecchia in nero che passava ogni giorno nella galleria.

Si è mossa troppo velocemente perché Michele potesse disegnarla, così l'immagine l'ha catturata da dietro.

Lo stile artistico di Michele si è evoluto da lì. Ora dipinge prevalentemente con oli.

È completamente autodidatta ed attribuisce a Mijas ed ai suoi artisti lo stimolo e le risorse da cui ha imparato.

Le piace che le sue tele lascino spazio all'immaginazione.

Le figure di Michele sono preoccupate; si allontanano da te, indicano qualcosa al di fuori del tuo campo visivo o si affrettano verso una destinazione sconosciuta.

C'è qualcosa che non ti stanno raccontando ed inevitabilmente inizi ad inventare la tua storia.

Dal 1981 Michele espone regolarmente in Spagna, Olanda e Svizzera, con mostre permanenti a Barcellona, ​​Granada, Mijas e Regno Unito.
