"Flowered Riverbank, Argenteuil" is an oil painting created in 1889 by French painter Claude Monet.
The painting is in the collection of the Pola Museum of Art, Hakone, Japan.
In 1872, Monet moved to Argenteuil, a town along the Seine River 10 km northwest of Paris, where he lived until January 1878.
Argenteuil, which was connected to Paris by the opening of the railway in 1851, was a popular leisure spot for people to play in the river, but it was rapidly industrialized.

Factories were built and the idyllic, beautiful scenery changed.
The number of factory workers in the town increased, and the Seine River became polluted.

Monet produced more than 170 works in Argenteuil, and this work is considered to be one of his last.
Monet painted a factory with a smoking chimney in the background and a green grassy area with dahlias in the foreground, contrasting the industrialization of the city with the beautiful nature.

The composition, which places the horizon at the top of the picture and a large motif in the foreground, blocking the view, has been said to be influenced by the composition of Japanese ukiyo-e. | Source: © Pola Museum of Art, Hakone, Japan

Nel 1872 Monet si trasferì ad Argenteuil, una città sulla Senna 10 km a nord-ovest di Parigi, dove visse fino al gennaio 1878.
Argenteuil, collegata a Parigi dall'apertura della ferrovia nel 1851, era una località popolare per attività ricreative come il nuoto nella Senna, ma divenne rapidamente industrializzata.
