In October 1888, Gauguin arrived in Arles where his friend Vincent Van Gogh had invited him to come and work.

The two artists had been writing to each other for several months, recording progress on their attempts to produce a non-naturalist landscape.

Nell'ottobre 1888, Gauguin raggiunge Arles, su invito dell'amico Vincent Van Gogh per vivere e lavorare con lui.

I due artisti intrattengono da molti mesi una fitta corrispondenza confidandosi l'un l'altro i progressi delle loro ricerche riguardanti una visione non naturalista del paesaggio.
