Albert André (1869-1954)

A Post-Impressionist artist and painter of 'intimiste' interiors, still lives and Parisian scenes, he was born in Lyon in 1869.

André spent his childhood vacations in Laudun where his family owned vineyards.

Aged 20, he left for Paris where he studied painting at the Académie Julian.

In the same course were Louis Valtat, Maurice Denis and Pierre Bonnard, and like them he began painting in a Post-Impressionist manner, using the colors, light and subject matter of the mainstream Impressionists but adding more expression and design.

Many of his paintings are to be found in major world museums such as the Modern Art Museum of New York, the Art Institute of Chicago, museums in Philadelphia and Washington DC, Paris's Musée d'Orsay, the Galerie Rienzo, and the Musée Albert-André in France.

Artista post-impressionista e pittore di interni "intimisti", nature morte e scene parigine, Albert André è nato a Lione nel 1869. André trascorse le vacanze d'infanzia a Laudun, dove la sua famiglia possedeva vigneti.

A 20 anni, è partito per Parigi dove ha studiato pittura all'Académie Julian.

Nello stesso corso c'erano Louis Valtat, Maurice Denis e Pierre Bonnard, e come loro ha iniziato a dipingere in un modo postimpressionista, usando i colori, la luce ed il soggetto degli impressionisti tradizionali ma aggiungendo più espressione e design.

Molti dei suoi dipinti si trovano nei principali musei del mondo come il Modern Art Museum di New York, l'Art Institute di Chicago, i musei di Filadelfia e Washington DC, il Musée d'Orsay di Parigi, la Galerie Rienzo e il Musée Albert -André in Francia.
